GREAT
AMERICAN TRAIN
SHOW (Marietta, GA): We had a lot of fun at the GATS
weekend at the Cobb Galleria. There were lots of vendors and three
layouts (Ntrak, Bendtrack and an HO modular). There was a fairly large
crowd and it was especially good to see all the families that came.
The kids were having a terrific time. Check out the Show
Photos Page.

HENDERSONVILLE,
NC TRAIN SHOW: Some of our club members [Jim Derr, Bill
Raymond, Gary (Santa) Martin and Bruce (Buck) Stauf] went to the 4th
annual train show in Hendersonville, NC. (actually in Flat Rock, NC)
We took some modules ran with the French Broad Ntrak club from
Hendersonville. The Ntrak layout was 14' by 60', which made for long runs
on beautifully landscaped modules. Check out some of the photos from the
show on our Show Photos Page.
It was a one-day show with lots of visitors and full of vendors with great
train stuff. Next year should be terrific as well. Jim Fitzgerald
was also there displaying T-trak and taking pictures for an upcoming Ntrak
newsletter. IN
MEMORIAL: With great sadness, we note the passing of a
long-time model railroader, Bob Shearer, of Sarasota, FL. Bob was
attending the show and visiting his life-long friend, Chuck Place of the
French Broad Ntrak club. Late Saturday evening (Oct. 11th) after the
Hendersonville Train Show and dinner, Bob suffered a stroke and passed
away on Sunday morning, his birthday. For those who knew Bob, he
will be greatly missed. Our heart-felt sympathy goes out to his
wife, Betty, their family and friends. MEETING
MINUTES:
-
President
John advised that he is continuing his discussion with the Kennesaw
Railway Museum regarding displaying the layout there. They currently
have a large facility and they are adding an addition, which may
provide space for an Ntrak display. The museum staff would like some
assistance building a long, operating diorama depicting the Great
Train Chase in n-scale. There is also the issue of the proposed
one-week run at the museum at a date to be announced. We would need to
get commitments for people to be there each day to operate the layout.
As this would be during a work-week, we especially need retired
members to volunteer for daytime running.
-
John
commented that he is continuing his negotiations with the City of
Woodstock to see if we can acquire some additional space in the depot
to set up a larger layout.
-
Piedmont
Pilgrimage is set for Saturday November 8th. We'll set up the
layout and run from 1 - 4 PM. This is an open-house for NMRA members
to come to the depot and see our layout in operation. We'll have
setup details and we'll need some volunteers to run that Saturday.
John suggested that perhaps we could come up with an interesting
layout configuration to use for the NMRA show, which could then be
used in the club room after November 8th.
-
A
vote was held on what shape the layout in the club-room would be. The
members voted on whether the retain a plain oval, or to use the
balloon modules for a more operations oriented layout. The majority
vote was for the oval.
-
There
was a discussion on whether to fix sidings to accommodate operations.
No decision was made.
WORK
SESSIONS:
To
be announced.
FUTURE
SHOWS:
The next scheduled show is the Greenberg
(Norcross) Show November 8-9,2003 - but we are just applying and we don't
know yet if we will be there. Check back for confirmation, dates and
times.
